Harold D. Garber's Obituary
Harold D. Garber, age 96, passed away December 19, 2016. He was born October 14, 1920 in Brethren, MI to Abraham and Mabel (Keck) Garber. Harold served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He married the former Mary Heinrich on September 18, 1944 and she preceded him in death in 1995. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church since 1954, the Lakeside Eagles, and the VFW Post 446. He was also a member of the Moose, the American Legion, and Catholic War Vets. He enjoyed carving birds out of wood and in his younger years, loved to fish. Harold spent many hours watching and feeding the many birds and squirrels that would come to visit him in his backyard. SURVIVORS include his daughter, Katherine Hicks of Muskegon; 2 grandsons: Robert (Christy) Baldwin of Kalkaska, Thomas (Michele) Baldwin of Muskegon; 2 great-grandchildren: Kaley Baldwin of Chicago and Jarrett Baldwin of Kalkaska; 3 sisters: Betty Nash of Le Roy, MI, Lucille Tessman of Manistee, Gladys Greiner of Cadillac. Harold was the 8th of 14 children. He loved each brother and sister dearly. He had 85 nieces and nephews. A special thank you to Shirley and Arther Cilman and family, Laura and Butch Fuller and family, Robert Merle and Jeff Garber and families for the special care they have given Uncle Harold. He held each niece and nephew in a special place in his heart. Greg Hicks has been like a son for the past 36 years. Mrs. Helen Walters and her son Charles Walters and family are surviving sister-in-law, and very special nephew. Harold was blessed to find a lady to share many years with, Delores Tardani and her family. Harold gained even more special loved ones. Each of her children and grandchildren are special, and Sam Tardani is a young man Harold respected and loved very much. We would like to thank Spectrum Health Group, Dr. Craig Elliott and Ted Dorsey, PA, for their care and to Spectrum Hospice. Also, the special neighbors in Sherman Manor who looked after and made sure Harold had everything he needed – Wayne & family, Don & family, Thank You! In addition to his parents and his wife, Harold was also preceded in death by 4 brothers and 5 sisters. A GRAVESIDE SERVICE will be held this spring in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
