Harold Floyd Hall's Obituary
Harold Floyd Hall, age 74, of Norton Shores, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Harold was a lifelong Muskegon resident and loved this community. He was born April 14, 1952, in Muskegon to Floyd and Donna (Bellgardt) Hall. He was a graduate of Muskegon High School. In the early 1990s, he met the love of his life, Shelley, and they married on November 27, 1993.
From a young age, Harold had an unmatched work ethic and a passion for the water. Harold founded Hall’s Sport Center in his parents’ front yard in 1972 and grew his love of boating into 54 years of operating a boat dealership as West Michigan’s “Key to Summer Fun.” Under Harold’s leadership and the help of many dedicated Hall’s employees, the dealership grew to four locations and put thousands of families on the water. In 2024, Boating Industry recognized Hall’s Sport Center as one of their Top 20 dealers in the nation. This award was a testament to the hard work and dedication of Harold and his team at Hall’s; a crowning moment in an outstanding career.
Harold’s love for boating and the water was central to who he was, and through it, he formed countless meaningful relationships throughout his life. You could count on finding him with a crowd on his boat in Muskegon, or at he and Shelley’s home away from home on Marco Island. He had a love for toys; Corvette’s, John Deere’s, and Polaris snowmobiles were his preference. But Harold’s pride and joy was simple - spending time with his family and friends. A fish fry and a football game at their home in Muskegon with loved ones or grabbing ice cream with his grandkids is where he was content. His impact was tremendous. He was loved by many and will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Shelley; three children: Niki (Rob) VanderLeest, Andy (Kassie) Usik, and Hayden (Torrie) Hall; five grandchildren: Camryn (Brady) Erlich, Zack, and Tayte VanderLeest; Evelyn, and Cora Usik; sisters, Sandy Smithers, Peggy (Mike) Williams; mother-in-law, Betty Foster; in-laws: Susan (Robert) Hauxwell, and Marvin, Jr. (Becky) Foster; as well as many nieces and nephews, devoted staff at Halls Sports Center, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Donna; father-in-law, Marvin Foster, and brother-in-law, Mike Smithers.
A Celebration of Life will take place 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Laketon Bethel Church (1568 W. Giles Rd. Muskegon, MI 49445). Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444 and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions in memory of Harold may be given to The Mona Lake Improvement Association or Kid’s Food Basket.
