Harold A. Kirk Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Harold Alvin Kirk, Jr., age 88, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013. He was born May 28, 1925 in Muskegon to Harold Alvin and Catherine C. (Legar) Kirk, Sr., and lived in the area most of his life. Harold served in the Civilian Conservation Corps 1941-42. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served as a Quarter Master 1st Class on the LST 225 in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater during WWII. On May 9, 1945, he married the former Lavada M. Hansen in Manistee, MI and she preceded him in death on February 15, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his very special friend, Marilyn Goldberg. He worked 34 years as a lineman for Consumer’s Power and retired in 1984. Harold was an active member of the Viking’s Linne Lodge #57 in Muskegon for many years. SURVIVORS include his 3 children, Douglas R. (Susan) Kirk of Holland, Gary W. (Sandy) Kirk of Muskegon, Kristine K. (Dan Etterman) O’Neal of Muskegon; 7 grandchildren, Steve (Chriztine) Kirk, Stacey James, Kendra (Greg) Nimtz, Melanie (Joe) Stotenbur, Melissa (Chad) Shackelford, Brian (Amanda) Hieftje, Holli Sweetland; 8 great-grandchildren, Carson, Isaac, Lucie, Benjamin, Sidney, Jason, Alison, Megan; 1 brother-in-law, Clyde Hawkins of Cadillac; 1 sister-in-law, Virginia Kirk of Cadilla; Marilyn’s daughter, Shelley (Dan) Burns. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Ronald W. Kirk, and 1 sister, Phyllis Hawkins, and half-sister, Mildred Morford. In keeping with his wishes, a private service will be held.
