Harold F. "Ike" Swain's Obituary
Mr. Harold F. “Ike” Swain, age 75, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the VNS Hospice House. He was born June 28, 1935 in Muskegon to Peter and Thelma (Buys) Swain and lived in the area his entire life. He worked as a manufacturing engineer for E. H. Sheldon & Co. for 19 years, Story & Clark Piano Co. for 9 years and Hekman Furniture Company for 10 years and retired in 2000. On July 3, 1954, he married the former Gloria R. Klein in Muskegon and she survives him. Ike was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven where he volunteered as a lector and Eucharistic distributor. He was also active with the Knights of Columbus Council #706 and the Cursillo Movement. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, but his first love was spending time with his grandchildren. SURVIVORS include his wife, Gloria; 3 children, Thomas (Anna) Swain, Jodi (Timothy) Justice, Colleen (Bob) Tilden; 9 grandchildren, Ashely (Teddy), Mathew, Patrick, Brent, Zach, Emma, Lily, Nathan, Brady; 3 great-grandchildren, Cayden, Aliviah, and Brady; 2 sisters, Marlene McArthur and Pat (George) Farkas. He was also preceded in death by his son, Patrick in 1976; his parents; and 1 sister, Bonnie Bowcamp. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 10:30 AM Monday, November 29, 2010, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. William A. Langois as celebrant. INTERMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISTITATION with Ike’s family will be 4-7 PM Sunday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey Street (231) 798-1100. The Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 PM Sunday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 9:30-10:30 AM Monday.
