Harriet G. VanDonkelaar's Obituary
Mrs. Harriet G. VanDonkelaar, age 92, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Christian Haven Home in Grand Haven. She was born on January 19, 1925 in Lucas, MI to Rev. James and Ella (Atwood) Stegeman and resided her entire life in the area. Harriet was a teacher for both Muskegon Heights and Mona Shores Schools for 23 years before retiring in 1980. She was also a Sunday School teacher, and was the past leader of “Widows Together” for 18 years. Harriet also enjoyed reading and traveling. On August 30, 1945, she married Henry VanDonkelaar, and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1984. SURVIVORS include four children, David (Monica) VanDonkelaar of Tahlequah, OK, Ken (Linda) VanDonkelaar of Spring Lake, Charles (Sandra) VanDonkelaar of Irons, MI and Debra Conyers of Muskegon; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and brother, James (Nancy) Stegeman of Florida. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 11AM Monday at The Lee Chapel, (6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100) with Pastor Nate Viskers officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 2-4 PM Sunday at The Lee Chapel. Burial will take place in Laketon Twp. Cemetery. Memorial Contributions to Christian Haven Home in Grand Haven or The Rev. and Mrs. James Stegeman Scholarship Fund c/o Hope College will be appreciated.
