Harry J. Karel's Obituary
Mr. Harry J. Karel, age 91, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 in Muskegon. He was born on March 24, 1930 in Muskegon to Harry and Jennie (Fisher) Karel, and resided his entire life in the area. Harry served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for Shaw Walker for 38 years as an accountant, prior to retiring in 1995. Harry is a member of Anchor Point Church (formerly Berean), where he served as the treasurer for 15 years, served on the consistory both as an elder and deacon, and sang in the choir. He also participated in the church’s bowling and golf leagues. Harry loved spending time with his family, including his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and was a diehard Muskegon Big Red fan. On April 10, 1954 he married the former Della Zuidema, and together celebrated 67 years of marriage this past April. SURVIVORS include his wife Della; three children, Kathryn (Dr. Paul) Sweet of Hudsonville, Thomas (Carol) Karel of Ravenna, Greg (Jennifer) Karel of Marrietta, GA; four grandchildren, Megan (Ryan) Heller, Amy (Kevin) Pruitt, Jason (Christina) Karel; and Samantha Karel; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean Ritsema; and brother, Claude Karel. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 11 AM Monday, July 26, 2021 at Anchor Point Church (635 Seminole Rd) with Dr. Rob Renberg officiating.
