Harry A. Johnson's Obituary
Mr. Harry A. Johnson, age 81, died Monday, March 30, 2009 in Muskegon. He was born June 22, 1927 in Timrå, Sweden to Frank V. and Anna E. (Osterstrom) Johnson, and moved to the Muskegon area where he resided since infancy. Mr. Johnson was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II and in the Persian Gulf during the Korean War. He was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. Mr. Johnson also belonged to the Lion’s Club, Viking’s Lodge where he was Chief in 1997, and a member of the Elk’s Scholarship Committee. He was a volunteer at Hackley Hospital for many years, and also was part of the American Red Cross Senior Transportation Service. Mr. Johnson worked for 20 years at Hackley Bank where he was Assistant Vice President in the Loan Department, before retiring from Comerica Bank in 1987. He also was the Vice President of Muskegon Credit Bureau, and member of the Muskegon Lenders Association. On September 15, 1951, he married the former Donna Lou Nelson, and she survives him along with 3 daughters, Lou Ann (Ronald) Hepworth of Muskegon, Karen Johnson of Kalamazoo, and Mary (Robert) Gilbert of Muskegon; 2 grandsons, Scott (Holly) Hepworth and Craig Hepworth; 2 sisters, Gunver Marchido of Cadillac and Elsa (Ted) Barrett of Norton Shores; sisters-in-law, Lois Daniels and Helen Nelson; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Ralph and Lula Nelson; and brothers-in-law, R. Robert Nelson, Donald Daniels, and Eugene Marchido. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 11 AM Thursday at Samuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Lewis H. Glick officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 6-8 PM Wednesday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Samuel Lutheran Church, American Red Cross, and the Vikings Linné Lodge No. 57 Burn Camp in Memory of Mr. Johnson will be appreciated.
