Harry M. Dexter's Obituary
Mr. Harry M. Dexter, age 86, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Day Spring Assisted Living Center. He was born August 17, 1924 in Muskegon to Myles and Katherine (Budnic) Dexter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and served during WWII. He married the former Claire Perry in Muskegon in 1949, and she preceded him in death in 1988. He worked as a die maker for Muskegon Paper Box and later worked as a bus driver for Muskegon Public Schools. He was a member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church where he had served as a lector and usher. He had been attending Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He enjoyed square and round dancing. He was a member of the Holy Name Society and was on the original board of the St. Joseph Credit Union. SURVIVORS include 5 children, Karen (Bill) Friend of North Muskegon, Jim (Mary Ellen) Dexter of Grand Rapids, Dan (Lisa) Dexter of Grand Haven, Jeanne Dexter of Muskegon, Mary Anne (Doug) Carlston of Norton Shores; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Frances Dexter and Eileen Fischer, and 1 brother, Charles Dexter. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Anthony M. Pelak as celebrant. INTERMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION with Harry’s family will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. (231) 759-8565. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Red Cross.
