Harvey R. DeYoung's Obituary
Harvey R. DeYoung, age 90, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016. He was born on February 27, 1925 to Andrew and Sarah (Dobb) DeYoung in Muskegon. On October 22, 1948 he married the former Marilyn MacDowell and they spent many happy years together until her death in 2011. Harvey was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Pacific Theater. He earned a Purple Heart during his service in World War II. He was a member of VFW Post #446 and St. Mark Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, fishing and was an avid Michigan State fan. Harvey is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Brian) Francisco; grandchildren, Susan (Jacob) Bolton, Sarah (Sean) Carmody, Andrew (Alison) Francisco; great-grandchildren, Joey Bolton, Mary Bolton, Henry Carmody, Eliza Carmody; brother-in-law, Logan MacDowell and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sister, Alice Koth; and brothers, Jay, Ralph, Frank, Andrew Jr. and John. A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Harvey will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church (4475 Henry St.) on Friday, January 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM. VISITATION with the family will take place an hour prior to services at the church. For a more lasting memory a donation in Harvey’s name would be appreciated to either St. Mark Lutheran Church or the Poppen Residence of Harbor Hospice.
