Mr. Harvey Carl Lloyd's Obituary
Mr. Harvey Carl Lloyd, age 92, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Sanctuary at McAuley. He was born September 24, 1919 in Muskegon, MI, to Carlo and Mildred (Lloyd) Marinovich and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. Harvey was a decorated veteran of World War II receiving the Bronze Star among other awards and commendations while serving in the U.S. Army for 5 years in the Pacific theater. He married the former Anne Katherine Ladd on May 29, 1946 in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on March 11, 2007. He served his community for 30 years as a firefighter for the Muskegon Fire Department and retired in 1980. Prior to that, he worked for a time at Shaw-Walker Corp. He was a parishioner of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, and also a member of the VFW Don Rea Post 8846. Harvey was an avid golfer with 5 holes–in-one to his name. He was a former member of Lincoln Golf Club and Top of the World Golf Club in Clearwater, FL, where he was a two time club champ. He was a semi-professional hockey player and played on the Michigan-Ontario Hockey League for the Muskegon Reds and the Sailors at the Mart Dock, and a linesman in the IHL for the Zephyrs, Mohawks, and Lumberjacks teams. During his career he was called-up many times to the NHL to officiate for the Red Wings and Blackhawk’s. Harvey continued to play hockey until the age of 60 with the Sorrento Team on the Old Men’s League. Besides golf he also enjoyed playing poker, gin rummy, tennis, pheasant and duck hunting, and sailing. SURVIVORS include his children, Deborah (Wayne) Degner of Norton Shores, Kevin (Susan) Lloyd of North Muskegon; 3 grandchildren, Deedrai (Chris) Slater, Ryan (Becky) Lloyd, Meghan Lloyd; 6 great-grandchildren, Amanda Degner, Andrew Degner, Reka Slater, Lydia Slater, Cadie Lloyd, and Hazel Lloyd; and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and 1 grandson, Dale Degner. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Anthony M. Pelak as celebrant. Military Honors will be offered by the Veteran of VFW #8846. INTERMENT will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. VISITATION will be held 5-8 PM Monday at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 10-11 AM Tuesday at the church.
