Keith, Gary and Phil, and families,
You have been in our thoughts since I learned of your father's passing. I have so many fond memories of our times together teaching band in Spring Lake, and also many memories of interaction with you, and your mom and dad. Knowing that Harvey is in a better place offers some peace to you all, but it certainly also comes with a giant hole in your lives. Your dad was a great person and a great role model for you and all the lives he touched during his teaching career.

Claire and I were saddened to hear of Harvey's passing. He was a real gentleman and I enjoyed working with him at SLHS. I had the joy of accompanying him as he played his clarinet for a few services at CCC where we were members.
Many fond memories of his gracious spirit and his smile are ours.

My prayers are with Mr. Van Dyke's family. I was one of his music students in the Hudsonville High School band from 1959--1963. He was very patient with the rowdy teens under his direction. I still remark about learning a new show for each football game. Under his leadership we all learned to march in step. Thank you. You live on in our memory.

My sympathy to Mr. VanDyke's family. I remember him very well.In addition to taking private flute lessons from him, I was in the Hudsonville High School Band from 1959-63. He was a passionate band director and had high expectations for us. The students in the band developed life-long friendships and a love of music. I believe he contributed to that. Harvey was an important part of my musical education. I student taught under he and Jim Lawrence the winter of 1978. Harvey (and Jim) treated me as a colleague from day one. There was a mutual respect that I will always cherish and remember. A number of years later, Harvey and his wife traveled down to our wedding in Niles, MI. and I really appreciated the thought and effort that they put in to share that day with us.

A good man.
