Hattie Garthwaite's Obituary
Hattie Garthwaite, age 98, of Grand Haven passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Heartwood Lodge Hospice House. She was born February 6, 1912, in Coopersville, to Arza and Hazel (Harris) Patterson. She was married to Paul Garthwaite on June 21, 1930, at the Methodist Church in downtown Grand Haven, and he preceded her in death on October 30, 1977.
Hattie lived in Grand Haven all of her life and enjoyed being at home with her family. She was a member of United Methodist Church of the Dunes where she was active in the Priscilla Circle. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed her family, friends, knitting, cooking, and wintering in Florida.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Rosemary Cary-Garthwaite of Grand Haven, and one sister-in-law, Erma Patterson of Grand Haven; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, two sons, Walter and Howard Garthwaite, and one brother Raymond Patterson.
The service for Hattie will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, at the United Methodist Church of the Dunes in Grand Haven with Rev. Daniel Duncan officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the United Methodist Church of the Dunes, Christian Haven Home or Hospice of North Ottawa Community are appreciated.
