Hazel L. Harjer's Obituary
Hazel Louise (Sprowls) Harjer, age 92, passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in Sheridan, MI. She was born April 2, 1923 in Muskegon to Webber and Ida (Ruys) Sikkenga. On September 30, 1944 she married Walter Sprowls and he preceded her in death in 1956. She then married Michael Harjer on July 6, 1979 and he also preceded her in death on August 26, 2015. Hazel worked as a secretary for Beach Elementary School for 17 years. She was also a member of Fifth Reformed Church, where she had sang in the choir for over 30 years. SURVIVORS include 4 children: Susan Stephens of Sparta, Thomas (Diane) Sprowls of Sheridan, MI, Sharon Sprowls of Alabama, James Sprowls of Muskegon; step-daughter, Antonie “Toni” Colbert of Muskegon; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Sikkenga, and sister, Phyllis VanAndel. A FUNERAL SERVICE for Hazel will be held 11:00 AM Monday, November 30, 2015 at Fifth Reformed Church (2330 Holton Rd.) with Pastor Paul Burmeister officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 2-5 PM Sunday, November 29, 2015 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210 and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in North Sidney Cemetery - Sidney, MI. MEMORIALS to the Fifth Reformed Church Memorial Fund will be appreciated.
