Hazel R. Leiter's Obituary
Hazel Ruth Leiter, age 98, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on Monday, June 26, 2023. Hazel was born in Muskegon on September 10, 1924, to John and Josie (Cooper) Wenk. She graduated from Muskegon High School and went on to work for many years as an office manager and secretary to the principal at Mona Shores High School before retiring in 1985. On June 14, 1947, she married William Leiter Sr, and they spent 45 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in 1993. Hazel enjoyed bowling, gardening, and watching Detroit Tigers baseball. She was an excellent cook and baker, making some of the best pies around. She was a lifelong resident of the Muskegon area and was a life member at the Mona Lake Boat Club. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed playing cribbage with friends at the library. She enjoyed spending time at home, but also liked going out to eat occasionally at Russ’ or The Hearthstone Bistro. Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: Lee Leiter and Wes (Dana Brinker) Leiter; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Josie Wenk; husband, William Leiter Sr; son, William Leiter Jr; and all six of her siblings. The family would like to extend special thanks to Hazel’s granddaughter, Carrie Leiter, for her compassionate care for Hazel over the last few years. A FUNERAL will be taking place for Hazel at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior.
