Hazel L. Oyer's Obituary
Hazel Louise Oyer, age 87, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, in Spring Lake, MI. She was born on May 18, 1934, in Redkey, Indiana, to her parents, Cecil and Hettie Marie (Kohler) Olvey. On December 29, 1956, she married Edwin Oyer, and they spent twenty happy years together before he preceded her in death on June 21, 1977. Hazel worked as an in-home health care aide for 20 years until she retired in 2002. She enjoyed working with her hands, making jewelry and cards for her friends. She also loved to travel, and was blessed to see places such as Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, Newfoundland, and even Israel. Her family also fondly remembers many summers spent camping across the country when they were young. Hazel was a member of Olivet Evangelical Free Church in Spring Lake, and she loved to study the word of God. She loved country and gospel music, puzzles and games, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Hazel will be lovingly remembered by her four children: Diana Weir, Sherry Crotts, Duane (Lisa) Oyer, and Elaine (Matthew) Long; nine grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and six siblings: James (Donna) Olvey, Regina Wilcox, Nilah Berry, Ruth Ann (Arnie) Petzold, Oneida Kay (Kenny) Pickett, and Linda (Gailen) Kester. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; brother, Merrill Olvey; sister, Lucretia Smith; and son in-law, Larry Crotts. VISITATION will be taking place at The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (213 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI, 49456) on Monday, January 17 from 5:00-7:00 PM. FUNERAL will take place at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services (6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI, 49444) on Tuesday, January 18 at 11:00 AM.
