Helen J. Charland's Obituary
Helen Joyce Charland, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. She was born on April 24, 1935, to Ernest and Lenore (Califf) Uber in Muskegon. Helen worked for several area businesses and then retired from the Muskegon Regional Developmental Center, where she met many dear friends. She loved to sew, crochet, and tend to her flower gardens. Helen was an extremely organized person who friends and family counted on. She always enjoyed trips to Florida, local casinos and was an avid NASCAR fan. Helen is survived by her children, Diane DeGraff, Grayle Woodruff, Jr., Denise Kelley, Dawn Woodruff, Darla (Bill) Parks, Dori (David) Matey; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and her beloved faithful companion, Zoey. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Charland; father, Ernest Uber; mother, Lenore (Lawrence) Abbott; brother, Ernest Uber. A FUNERAL SERVICE for Helen will take place on Monday, June 28, 2021, at 11:00 AM with visitation an hour prior to the service at The Lee Chapel of The Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
