Helen R. Dyk's Obituary
Helen Ruth Dyk, born December 14, 1931 in Platte, South Dakota took flight on June 14, 2021. She was 89 years old. She was born to Ryan and Jennie (Zylstra) Dyk of Platte and had three siblings, Dorothy, Ken and Jean who are all waiting for her in paradise. She graduated from Calvin College with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in New Holland, Illinois before coming to Grand Rapids and taking a position teaching third grade at West Side Christian School. She spent her life nurturing and teaching children. She read constantly. She loved nature and the outdoors, especially wildflowers and songbirds. She also loved a ride in farm country in the back of a pickup truck. She loved cats, camping and crafts, not necessarily in that order. She also loved her childhood on the farm and especially loved her Grandpa and Grandma Zylstra who lived just up the path. She extended the memory of them to her nieces and nephews. Their love and character lived on through her. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Elaine Dyk of South Dakota, her nieces and nephews, Janelle (Brad) Ellis, Rylan Dyk, Kevin Dyk, Ryan (Bobby) Oldenburg and Jennifer (Ken) Chapin of Grand Rapids; great nieces and great nephews, Micah (Gus), Tess, & Emma Chapin, Elijah, Hannah(Troy), Tressa Oldenburg, Emily (Adam) Angerhofer, Erica (Tyler) Hansen, Elyssa Ellis; great-great nieces and nephew, Kya, Jack, Halle Angerhofer, Rhett and Bear Hanson. The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 22, at 2:00 PM at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 7171 Willard Ave., SE, Grand Rapids, 49458. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Platte City Cemetery in Platte, SD. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
