Helen M. Fortier's Obituary
Helen Fortier, age 95, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2019. She was born on April 15, 1923 to William and Florence Jepsen in Manistee, MI. Helen worked for many years as a sales clerk for Hoslers. She will be remembered by her meticulous way of living, from always looking her best to keeping a tidy yard, everything Helen did was with perfection in mind. She along with her husband, Donald, were active members of the Vikings and the Elks Lodge. Helen and Donald were married on December 19, 1946 and they spent 53 years together until his passing in September of 2000. Helen is survived by her children, Sandi Gowin, Randy Fortier; grandchildren, Kim (Steve) Overbeek, Geoff (Jen) Gowin, Brad (Kelly) Gowin, David (Allie) Fortier, Jennifer (Adam) Smith, Rochelle (Mario) Stevenson, Scott Fortier; 17 great-grandchildren; siblings, Richard Duncan and Esther Vandervelde. She was preceded in death by her parents; Husband, Donald; daughter-in-law, Paulette Fortier; son-in-law, William Gowin; great-grandchild, Austin Hadix. A MEMORIAL MASS for Helen will take place on March 15, 2019 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (1110 Dykstra Rd.) at 11:00 AM with visitation taking place one hour prior to Mass. Mass will be presided over by Rev. Fr. Godfrey Onyekwere. For a more lasting memory, donations in Helen’s name can be made to the Kids Food Basket.
