Helen Hage's Obituary
Helen Lydia Hage, 95, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at Christian Care of Muskegon. Helen was born on Dec. 16,1909 to Louis and Lydia (Ehlers) Orlowsky in Chicago, Illinois. She and her beloved husband, Theodore (Ted) Hage to whom she was married for 60 years made their home in the Chicago area until they retired to Whitbeck Road in Montague. Helen and Ted spent many happy years there together in retirement. Helen became involved in the Montague Museum and the Montague Garden Club. In 1989 they moved to Pine Grove Manor in Muskegon and made many wonderful friends. Helen is survived by her very dear friend Norma Jones of Muskegon. Also surviving are her nephew, Dr. Marvin Hage and his wife Miriam of Wilmington, NC, a very special great niece, Elizabeth Hage of Alexandria, Virginia and her great nephews, Dr. William Hage (Penny) of Raleigh, North Carolina and John C. Hage (Anna) of Princeton, New Jersey.
Although Helen lived to be a senior citizen she was always young at heart and continued to enjoy life and be active until very recently. She had a curious mind and remained an avid reader and student. She loved the classes she took at Pine Grove, was a loyal educational TV viewer, and was a faithful subscriber to Smithsonian magazine. She loved to cook and to experiment with new recipes. She never missed Jeopardy! Although she did not venture far from Muskegon, in her mind she traveled the world! Her infectious laugh and straightforward “Chicago” sense of humor will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Over the years she had many physical challenges but she always remained good natured and optimistic. We are thankful for the joy that Helen brought into our lives and will miss her a great deal. As a family we are so grateful for the love and friendship that Norma Jones gave to Helen, especially in the last few days, We are also grateful to the staff of Christian Care for the support and care given to Helen.
