Helen Sue Neil's Obituary
Helen Sue Neil, age 90 of Grand Haven, formerly of Venice, FL passed away September 27, 2021 at Grand Pines Assisted Living, Grand Haven, MI. Helen was born September 20, 1931 to Aubrey and Pluma (Silvey) Arwood in Lansing, MI. She was a graduate of Sexton High School and married her high school sweetheart, Richard Neil, on April 9, 1949. He preceded her in death in 1992. Together they raised three children, Becky (Jack) Stockhaus, David (Paula) Neil, and Cyndy (Jeff) Wierenga while living in Lansing.
She worked as a technician for the United States Property Fiscal Office where she provided support for the soldiers of the Michigan Army National Guard and was a champion for many, serving as an Equal Opportunity Officer. She and her husband retired to Florida where she enjoyed walking, golf, shopping, and visiting with friends and family.
Helen believed in the value of loving friendships. She was a fierce advocate for her children, cherished her family and friends, and was always willing to listen, help and love by putting others before herself. Her easy smile was infectious and her hugs were revered by many, filling everyone she met with joy. The staff and caregivers in the Courtyard at Grand Pines Assisted Living were recipients of her gentle spirit and sweet smile, continuing to touch lives even through her increasing dementia. The family thanks all those who provided her with such loving care through the dementia process including Grand Pines Assisted Living, and Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
She is survived by her children; grandchildren Christopher Morgan, Sara (Eric) LaFranchise, Michael Neil, Hannah Wierenga; great-grandchildren Saijeri, Sophia, and Jack; several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family will privately celebrate the life of Helen returning her to her beloved Venice, FL. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
