Mrs. Helen M. Sonnega, age 88, died Sunday, March 15, 2015 in Muskegon. She was born August 28, 1926 in Scottville, MI to Alex and Mabel (Lyst) Andersen; and has resided most of her life in the Muskegon area. Helen was a 1944 grad Read Obituary
Helen and I worked together at Holcomb Reporting. She was an absolute joy to be around. She was the backbone of that office and made it a pleasure to come in in the morning. Steve and Jeff, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your mom and dad were both wonderful people and will be sorely missed.
I will always remember and take with me Aunt Bits' good humor and zest for life. What fun we had at her house as kids! And how when we were older Aunt Bits could always be counted on to engage us in interesting and worthwhile conversation, such was her wonderful curiosity and grace. Aunt Bits will be deeply missed.

From the first time I met Helen, I was impressed with her memory. I remember that she learned the names of my two brothers and never failed to ask after them (by name!) She would remember details of stories I had told her that never failed to amaze me. It made me realize how much that means to other people and set an example to me of a very nice way to be in the world.

Aunt Bits made everyone feel special and loved. She always remembered birthdays and milestone events and called or wrote letters with photos enclosed. She was engaged in activities, people and in life. Treasured memories include vacation trips to FL in the 60s with Paul & cousins to have fun at the tourist attractions and Daytona Beach, later trips to FL to see her sister, Dottie, and a visit with us in Chicago. We played competitive card games of Cad and Rummikub while gathered around her dining room table. Auntie Bits and I kept in touch by phone, and she was always upbeat with a story to tell me and a great laugh. I've kept her cards and letters, and I'll always keep her love in my heart.

We loved our Aunt BIts and we have wonderful memories....family picnics along Mona Lake, holidays with all those Sonnega's, the big family reunion, and much more. Aunt Bitz was a shining light in our midst. We are sorry we are unable to attend her memorial service, but our thoughts and prayers are surely with Steve, Jeff and the extended family.
