Helen J. (Swarts) VanHohenstein's Obituary
Mrs. Helen J. (Swarts) VanHohenstein, age 87, passed away Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Mercy Health Partners. She was born January 26, 1925 in Muskegon to Joseph and Helen (Christine) Swarts and lived her entire life in the area. On August 14, 1943, she married Jack VanHohenstein in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on April 22, 1998. Helen worked at Woolworths, Lockages and Carolyn’s Bridal before retirement. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Helen enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and sewing. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Wendy (Barry) Sullivan of Muskegon, Michael VanHohenstein of Hawaii, Richard (Bonnie Dauten) VanHohenstein of Muskegon; 1 daughter-in-law, Fran (Daryld) Grabe of Muskegon; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters, Jean Kortman and Grace Memberto. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 10:30 AM Saturday, February 18, 2012 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Antony J. Britto as celebrant. VISITATION will be held one our prior to the Mass. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Harbor Hospice or St. Thomas Church Memorial Fund.
