Ms. Helen Catherine Vida's Obituary
Ms. Helen C. Vida, age 95, entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, March 10, 2013. She was born in Muskegon Heights, MI on March 20, 1917, to Rozalia “Rose” (Szanto) and Stephen Vida, and was a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart Church, having once served as organist there. She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1934 and worked at Anaconda and The Norge. Helen performed clerical work from 1942-1950 in Los Angeles, CA, at the Fox West Coast Theater, Lockheed Aircraft, and L.A. Stenographic Service and also at a public library in Denver. She worked as secretary from 1951-1952 for the Muskegon Parks & Recreation Dept. and retired after 23 years with the City of Grand Rapids Planning Dept., later working part time at the Muskegon YFCA and volunteering at the Muskegon Arthritis Foundation and Lakeshore Lung. Helen enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, music, fashion, and collecting recipes. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph, and an infant sibling both buried in Hungary; her parents; and her siblings, Mary Jozsa, Theresa Javinsky, Rose Vivian, Elizabeth Fodrocy, and Julia, Steven, Frank, and John Vida. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Vida, special niece, Joan Vida; and many nieces and nephews who hold her in high regard. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Antony Britto presiding. VISITATION will be 1 hour prior to the service. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. MEMORIALS to Sacred Heart Church would be appreciated.
