Helen Elizabeth Bogner's Obituary
Mrs. Helen E. (McCumber) Bogner, age 93, passed away Friday, April 1, 2011 at Mercy Health Partners – Mercy Campus. She was born June 30, 1917 in Mason County, MI to Edgar and Carrie (Manchester) McCumber and lived in the area most of her life. She married Arnold F. Bogner on November 18, 1939 and he preceded her in death on March 27, 1990. Prior to her retirement in 1988, she worked 23 years as a clerk for J.C. Penney Department Store. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and had been active with the Women’s Guild and St. Francis Seniors. She was also active with the Polish Union Seniors and McGraft Park Seniors. SURVIVORS include 6 children, Carol (Jerry) Hopma of North Muskegon, Lyle (Norma) Bogner of Lowell, MI, Dale (Patricia) Bogner of Muskegon, Warren (Debbie) Bogner of Ada, MI, Janice (Martin) Mangino of Powhatan, VA, Joyce (Greg) VanderVere of Norton Shores; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Ralph McCumber of Fountain, MI; 3 sisters, Bertha Hayes of Flushing, Marguerite Rhine of Shelby, Phyllis Stoutenberg of Davison, MI; special friend, Joseph Varboncoeur; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and 2 brothers, Glen and Robert McCumber. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church - Marian Chapel with the Rev. Fr. Philip P. Salmonowicz as celebrant. VISITATION will be 5-8 PM Monday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 1547 W. Sherman Blvd.(231) 759-8565. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Monday evening. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass, 9-10 AM Tuesday at the church. INTERMENT will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to the Hume Home. The family would like to acknowledge the caring staff at the Hume Home where Helen resided and the excellent care she received while at Mercy ICU and on the 4th floor.
