Helen F. Foreman's Obituary
Helen F. Foreman, 91, faithful wife, mother and committed Christian went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Waldon Woods Retirement Center, Wyoming, MI. She was born Helen Frances Schooler, Feb. 23, 1919, in Simpsonville, KY, to Willie and Elizabeth (Taylor) Schooler. She married Adrian L. Foreman on July 1, 1939 in Lanesville, IN. He preceded her in death in Nov., 1996. Mrs. Foreman was a Grand Haven resident for over 61 years, living her last years at the Waldon Woods Retirement Community in Wyoming, MI.
She was a faithful and involved member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She served as Sunday school teacher and AAL Branch secretary for over 25 years. She held offices in all capacities of Concordia Society, Ladies’ Aid, Married Couples and St. John’s Lutheran School PTL. She was also a greeter, prayer warrior, evangelist and offering counter.
She was always at her husband’s side, even as bookkeeper for their family business, Foreman Mfg. Co. They both were committed to St. John’s Lutheran School.
Helen’s special gift was remembering other’s birthdays and loved sending greeting cards for all occasions. Letter writing was her most earnest hobby. She was also known for her excellent angel food cakes from scratch.
Mrs. Foreman will be greatly missed by her two children, a son, Rev. Curtis L. (Sandy) Foreman of Grimes, IA, and daughter, Phyllis F. (Rev. Rodney) Otto of Grandville; nine grandchildren: Lisa (Kevin) VandeWalker, Carol Foreman, Tim (Jane) Foreman, Valerie (Dennis) Hoefle, Sara (Jeff) Kynion, Chris (Missy) Otto, Steve (Jen) Otto, Andrew (Pam) Otto, and Jayson (Kelly) Otto; 19 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Rev. Eugene (Janet) Schooler; two sisters, Irene Norton and Marie Rathsman; sisters-in-law, MaryLou Schooler and Mary Richert; brother-in-law, Eldon Foreman, in addition to many loved nieces, nephews, and 8 God-children. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: J.L., William, and Lawrence Schooler, one sister, Rosa Paulson, two God children and many in-laws.
The funeral service for Mrs. Foreman will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, October 1, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Bill Lahrman officiating. Internment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 4–7 PM Thursday, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven and 1 hour prior to the service at church. Memorial contributions can be made to the Adrian and Helen Foreman Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to students attending St. John’s Lutheran School.
