Henrietta Phillips' Obituary
Henrietta Phillips passed peacefully from this world into the presence of Jesus on October 21, 2016. Born on February 27, 1929 to John and Johanna Vanderstelt and was raised in a family of ten children. She married Alfred Phillips in March of 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in 2005 to whom she had been married for 57 years.
She is survived by her three children Beverly (Warren) Van Kampen of Spring Lake, Roger (Barbara) Phillips of Holland, and Kendal (Tambrete) Phillips of Chicago. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Andrea Masvero, Tarah (Brian) Sproul, Jonathan (Katie) Phillips, Joel (Julie) Phillips, Aren (Leah) Phillips, Brandon Phillips, and Alysia Phillips as well as ten great-grandchildren. Other survivors include sisters Donna (Ken) Lundholm and Joanne (Tom) Fowlow, and brother John (Joyce) Vanderstelt. Siblings preceding her in death include Joseph Vanderstelt, Derk Vanderstelt, William Vanderstelt, Jacob Vanderstelt, Margaret (Walter) VanderKooi, Helen (Robert) Fraaza, and Gertrude (Bennie) Smith.
Henrietta worked early in her life as a secretary and, later, she and Al were co-owners and operators of Cobb’s Chicken Take-Out in Grand Haven. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and playing board games. Her last years were spent at RestHaven Care Center in Holland where she was known for her quick wit and for her championships in Scrabble.
Henrietta was a Christian, committed to knowing and serving God. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spring Lake and, while at RestHaven, a faithful attendee at 14th Street Christian Reformed Church in Holland.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 28, 2016 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Marv Hofman and Rev. Doug Bytwerk officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery.
