Henry Reyenga's Obituary
Henry (Hendrik) Reyenga, 99 years, resident of Village at the Pines in Grand Haven, Michigan, formerly of Delavan, Wisconsin, went home to be with his heavenly father on June 25, 2019. Henry was born in 1920 in the Netherlands to John and Hildegarde (Zomer) Reyenga. They immigrated to America in 1920 and lived in Sturtevant, Wisconsin. Later he worked on the family farm and enjoyed mechanic work in Franksville. In 1945 he married Anna Nieuwenhuis in Delavan and they were married for 70 years. Henry was a member of the Delavan Christian Reformed Church. He served in various capacities as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, janitor and sound system technician. He was employed by Elkhorn Motors-Ford, Dean Foods in Delavan and J.I. Case in Janesville until the time of his retirement. He enjoyed music ministry playing and singing gospel music with the accordion at home gatherings and church. He especially enjoyed ministering to the residents at Lakeland Nursing Home with his sister Arlene Torrenga. Henry and his wife Ann were volunteers and seasonal campers at Timber-lee Christian camp in East Troy for many years and enjoying summer camping with their grandchildren. Henry was very creative and made large specialty grills and enjoyed painting cardinals. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. One of his favorite Bible passages was John 14:6, Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”.
Henry is survived by his children: John (Mary) Reyenga, Richard (Judy) Reyenga, Sally (John) Henderson, and Henry (Pam) Reyenga Jr.; 16 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; his sister, Arlene Torrenga, sisters-in-law, Dora Haak and Dorothy Reyenga and cousin, Louis (Tina) Zomer. Many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Henry is preceded in death by his wife, Ann Reyenga, his parents, half-brother, Dick Reyenga, sister, Dorothy and (Phil) VanderLeest, brother, James Reyenga, sister, Wilma and (Henry) Van Dyken and brothers-in-law, John Haak and Robert Torrenga and great-granddaughter, Anika Fritsch.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, June 28, 2019, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417 with Rev Henry Reyenga Jr. officiating. Visitation is at 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service. Burial will take place following the service at Lake Forest Cemetery.
