Henry Louis Smith's Obituary
Henry Louis Smith, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2025. He was born to Roosevelt Smith and Irene Kirks on June 21, 1945, in Hollyknowe, Mississippi. Brother Smith was raised in Leland, Mississippi where he attended and graduated from Breisch High School. He accepted Christ at an early age at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Leland, Mississippi. He moved to Muskegon, Michigan in 1966 and was employed by Campbell, Wyant and Cannon for 20 years. He later obtained employment at Gerber Foods as a Quality Control Supervisor for 22 years. He enjoyed his work. Brother Smith also loved gardening, traveling and teaching the word of God. He would always say one should remain teachable in order to teach. He was a very timely servant, priding himself in utilizing God’s time as ordered in everything he did. Brother Smith married the love of his life, Erma Wiseman, on November 15, 1997 and was the father of four beautiful children: Henry Louis Smith Jr., Catrina Odneal, Felicia Williams, and Dominque Smith. He was the grandfather of ten loving grandchildren. Brother Smith was a brother to 13 siblings: Jimmy Kirks, Odessa Stiff, James Smith, Henry Lee Williams, Rosemary Cook, Georgia Ware, Dora Kirks, Cora Williams, Gary Williams, Rodney Williams, Burce Williams, Frank Smith and Idellar Smith. Brother Smith was proud and loved his family dearly and he leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife, Erma Smith; four children, Henry Louis (Carla) Smith Jr., Catrina Odneal, Felicia (Edward) Williams, Dominique Smith; ten grandchildren; three brothers, Gary Rodney and Burce (Tameka) Williams; one sister, Cora Williams; and sister-in-law, Sherline Williams. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and church family. Brother Smith was preceded in death by his father and mother; four brothers; five sisters; and special uncle, James Kirks. FUNERAL SERVICES for Henry will be held 12:00 PM, Monday, March 10, 2025, at the Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. VISITATION with the family will take place one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. BURIAL will take place at Mona View Cemetery.
