Herbert C. "Herb" Driver Jr.'s Obituary
Herbert Clyde “Herb” Driver, Jr., age 81, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2024, due to complications from pneumonia. He was born February 14, 1943, in Muskegon, Michigan to Herbert Sr. and Margaret Ann (Jardine) Driver. Herb was a proud graduate of Muskegon High School (class of 1960) and Western Michigan University where he majored in accounting.
Herb married Karen Dollar on September 16, 1967, in Muskegon. Early in their marriage, Herb served in the U. S. Army as a First Lieutenant during the Vietnam War stationed at Cam Ranh Bay. His professional career included financial management roles with GTE (now Verizon) and small business ownership. Herb was a Muskegon guy through and through. From his early days attending Camp Pendalouan, riding with his buddies on their Cushman Eagles to his handball playing days at the “Y”, Herb had too many buddies to count. He truly valued the friendships he made, and the memories created with all his friends throughout the years. To all his buddies, Herb was known as a great guy.
Herb is survived by Karen, his beloved wife of 57 years; sister, Elizabeth (Tom) Tindall of Whitehall; brother, Robert J. (Mary) Driver of Las Vegas, Nevada; and sister-in-law, Romaine Dollar of Coldwater. He will be forever remembered by his special nieces and nephews: Ann (Jeff) Moss, Cathy (Jared) Mott, Michael (Kate) Driver, Timothy (Christine) Driver, Deborah Shire, Jaime (Nick) Shire Rogers, Michael Dollar, Steven Dollar and Jeffrey Dollar. The support from Ann, Cathy, and Jaime during their Uncle Herb’s final days will be treasured forever. Michael and Timothy were like sons to their Uncle Herb, and he will be greatly missed by them. Cousin, Bernie (Carol) Schroeder of Chestertown, Maryland was especially close to Herb as a kindred spirit.
Arrangements entrusted to The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. No service will be held at this time. A celebration of life will take place in spring/summer 2025.
Donations in memory of Herb may be directed to Camp Pendalouan or the Muskegon Art Museum .
