Herbert Lee Smith Jr.'s Obituary
Herbert Lee Smith Jr., age 85, of Ravenna, MI, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 in Walker, MI with his family by his side. Herbert was born in Muskegon, MI to Herbert Lee and Virginia (Martin) Smith on December 20, 1937. He went to Carr School in Muskegon, MI. On April 9, 1960, he married Jeyne Sue DeJonge. They lived the majority of their lives in Ravenna, MI where they raised their eight children. Hebert loved woodworking, playing Euchre, fishing, working in his yard (one year winning Best Yard by Better Homes and Garden), and most of all being Deacon at his church, Jibson Immanuel Baptist Church, serving our Lord Jesus Christ. Herbert is survived by his wife, Jeyne; children: Sue (Dale) Melin, Herbie Smith, Linda (Lonnie Smith) Stebelton, Billy (Lisa) Smith, Richard (Jill) Smith, Pam (Tom Kosak) Smith, Paula (Michael) Jones, and Tina (Rick) Griswold; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Janice Price. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. Tim Beechnau of Ravenna, MI, Dr. John Key, DO Cardiologist of Wyoming, MI, and Spectrum Health Hospice, especially Phil Jones. A celebration of Herbert’s life will be held later in Ravenna, MI. Herb will be laid to rest in Egelston Twp. Cemetery in Muskegon, MI. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Herb’s name to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
