Heressa Workman's Obituary
Mrs. Heressa “Hessie” Wabeke South Workman, age 93, passed away Monday morning, May 31, 2004. She was born on June 11, 1910 in Vriesland, Michigan to Henry J. and Hattie (Meengs) Wabeke. She was an active member of Covenant Community Church, its women’s activities and the choir. She was employed for many years at Hilt’s Inc. After retirement, she volunteered with American Cancer Society, Meals-on-Wheels, and Hospice for many years. She married Lawrence E. South, Sr. in 1930 and he preceded her in death in 1978. She then married an old friend, Simon (Sam) Workman in 1989. SURVIVORS include her husband, Simon “Sam”, children, Leverne (Florraine) South of Jenison, Avis S. (William) Boelkins of Muskegon, son-in-law, Dennis DeWitt, daughter-in-law, Janet Madison South of Fort Wayne, IN, her brother, Merton Wabeke of Vriesland, MI, 20 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 3 children, Robert South, Janna South DeWitt, and Lawrence E. South Jr., a brother, Elvin Wabeke, and sister, Amy Oosting. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Covenant Community Church at 134 E. Barney, Muskegon Heights, Michigan with Reverend Miriam Bush officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior (1:00-2:00PM) to the service. MEMORIALS to Covenant Community Church Memorial Fund will be appreciated.
