Mr. Herman Alvin Stiver's Obituary
Mr. Herman Alvin Stiver, age 96, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. Herman was born October 19, 1920 to Robert and Jessie (Bowman) Stiver in Cleon Township, MI. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII. Herman was employed as a postal clerk, and then Post Master, for 33 years before retiring in 1977. He was a member of Calvary Church where he served on the Missions Committee and as treasurer for many years. Herman was a longtime volunteer for the Goodfellows organization. He was very active until the end of his life, living life to its fullest. He loved to travel from Alaska to the Middle East. He enjoyed bowling, tennis, working with stained glass and rock polishing. He was an avid reader and gardener. But most of all he loved his family. On June 26, 1948, he married the former Juanita E. May in Copemish, MI. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Juanita, along with his sons, Russell (Beth) Stiver of Muskegon and Neil (Kathy) Stiver of Lowell; grandchildren, Alan (Katie) Stiver and Amanda (Daniel) Bowman; great-grandchildren, Brad, Luke, and Isabelle Stiver, John, Anna, and Aria Bowman; sisters-in-law, Mary and Ginny Stiver; and many nieces and nephews. Herman was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Howard Stiver and sister, Irene Low. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, May 26, 2017 at Calvary Church, 1070 Quarterline Rd. with Pastor Keith Sandison and Dr. Bill Rudd co-officiating. VISITATION will be 6-8 PM Thursday at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., 231-726-5210 and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Cleon Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Church.
