Hilma Ione Schneider's Obituary
Mrs. Hilma Ione Schneider, age 80, died Sunday, August 21, 2005 at a local nursing home. She was born December 20, 1924 in Muskegon to Wilbur and Edna (Fogg) Nichols. Although Hilma was raised on farms in Ferry, MI, and lived for periods in Sparta and West Olive, she resided in the Muskegon area most of her life. On September 21, 1940, she married Leonard F. Schneider in Hart. In the 1950’s and 1960’s, to help put her children through school, she was employed as a checkout clerk at Kroger Stores on Apple Avenue. She attended churches in the area, including Central, Wolf Lake and Crestwood United Methodist Church, and was a life member of the Genesis Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was a card enthusiast and rarely missed playing with her Tuesday bridge group. SURVIVORS include three children: Donald L. (Jean Chin) Schneider of Kensington, MD, Virginia A. (William) Nordlof of Huntley, IL, and Barbara J. (Ralph) Schulte of Chesaning, MI; five grandchildren: Michelle Nordlof of Elgin, IL, Amy (Christopher) Christuk of Newbury, MA, Keith (Brooke) Nordlof of Ft. Richardson, AK, Heather (Kenneth) Wendling of Chesaning, MI, Eric Schulte of Chesaning, MI; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and granddaughter-in-law, Tracie. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Leonard F. Schneider, long-time employee of Consumers Power Co.; one sister, Inez Schraeder, and by three brothers, Ladean, Willard and Elihu “Bud” Nichols. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, August 25, 2005 at Crestwood United Methodist Church with Pastor Dianne Morrison officiating. INTERMENT will follow at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with the family will be 6-9 PM Wednesday at the Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210.
