Homer Ray Hoagland Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Homer Ray Hoagland Jr., age 73, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 surrounded by friends and family. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on March 29, 1951 to Homer R. and Sylvia (McCarry) Hoagland Sr. Homer had been employed as a pipe fitter at Campbell, Wyant, and Cannon and later was a tool and die maker for Benteler Automotive prior to his retirement. He was a member of the Fruitport Eagles. Homer lived each day to the fullest with a warm smile on his face. An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, he relished the time he spent on his beloved property, "the nicest piece of property in Egleston Township." There, he indulged in things like riding quads, firing homemade cannons, gathering around bonfires, and enjoying a cold beer with family and friends. Homer was a charismatic jokester, a jack-of-all-trades, and a captivating storyteller. But above all, he cherished his children, grandchildren, and partner, Diana. Homer is survived by his partner, Diana Alexander; five children, Ronnie Hoagland, Laurie Hoagland, Monica (Todd) Tucker, Amber (Thom) Falk, Rachelle (David) Townsend, and Brandi (Aaron) Danigelis; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Sylvia Ann Vandervelde; brothers, Marv (Carmen) Hoagland, Garry (Cindy) Hoagland, and Bob (JoAnn) Hoagland; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends, including his life-long friend of 65 years, “Big Homer” Norton. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine Hoagland; and brother-in-law, Art Vandervelde. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Monday, March 24, 2025 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. VISITATION will be one hour prior to his service. You may sign his online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com
