Mr. Howard "Jerry" Burgess' Obituary
Mr. Howard G. “Jerry” Burgess, age 80, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 13, 2013, in Muskegon. He was born June 15, 1932 to Howard and Lena (Jannenga) Burgess in Muskegon, and was a lifelong resident. Jerry worked for Lakeshore Machinery for 28 years, retiring in 1994. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Eagles, the Muskegon Moose Lodge, the Shriners, the Masonic Temple 140 F & AM, a sponsor of Ducks Unlimited, and a member of the American Legion Post 411. Jerry was a “good grandpa who loved them great-grandkids”. He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards, socializing, fishing, going to their cottage on Campbell Lake (for 40 years), wintering in Florida, NASCAR, football, and many other sports. On July 1, 1961 Jerry married Carol L. Seifers in Muskegon, and she survives him along with 2 daughters, Kathy (Mike) Fielstra of Muskegon, Kelli (Paul) Ten Brock of Sparta; 7 grandchildren, Nick (Becky), Brandon (Jasmine), Mikey (Kayla), Kaytee, Taylor, Travis, and Amanda (Xavier); 5 great- grandchildren, Desiree, Addison, Hunter, Blake, and Madalyne; 2 sisters, Dorothy Foster of Traverse City, Pat LaPorte of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; 2 brothers, Jack and Robert Burgess. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held Monday, June 24, at 11:00 AM at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., The Lee Chapel 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, (231) 798-1100. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service.
