Howard E. DeVries' Obituary
Mr. Howard E. “Howie” DeVries, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. He was born on July 25, 1935 in Muskegon to Howard and Emma (Bushman) DeVries. A lifelong resident of the area, Howie married the former Janet Egner Hollar on January 23, 1982 and she survives him. Howie and Jan were longtime members of Anchor Point Bible Church (formerly Berean Church), where Howie served as a past board member and continued to faithfully serve. He was also a member of AMBUCS, an organization dedicated to helping people with disabilities, and volunteered many hours at Mercy Hospital. When not helping others, Howie enjoyed boating and bowling. Howie will be deeply missed by his wife of 39 years, Jan; children, Penny (Scott) Hughes, Lee (Denise) DeVries, and Kim (John) Kamp; step-children, Diane Maki, Julie Johnson, and Joel Hollar; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert (Caryn) DeVries and Mary Lane; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Steven DeVries, and parents. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00PM, Friday, June 11 at Anchor Point Bible Church (635 Seminole Rd., Norton Shores, MI 49441). Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service, from 12:00-1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of choice.
