Howard N. Mundt's Obituary
Mr. Howard N. Mundt, age 90, passed away February 18, 2012 at the Poppen Residence. He was born on May 12, 1921 to Charles and Alice (VanZylen) Mundt in Muskegon. He was an active member of Crestwood United Methodist Church where he served as a Lay Leader for 17 years and on the building committee for building of the new church. Prior to his retirement in 1983, Howard worked for Bos Sheet Metal for 36 years and then, East Muskegon Sheet Metal for 4 years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Howard enjoyed fishing, hunting and woodworking. He was on the Orchard View School Board for 20 years and was also involved with Little League Baseball Quarter Oak League as a coach for 10 years. On October 6, 1943 he married Marjorie Blood in Muskegon and she survives him along with 1 son, Steven (Jeannine) Mundt of Blue Lake Township; 3 grandchildren, Kelly, Sonya and Leslie Mundt; great-granddaughter, Jayda Mundt; sister, Ruth Baker of Chicago; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Lambkin, Elva and Wilma Blood; Mary Blood, of whom he was guardian, along with her children, Ira and Fatima Shine and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Fredrick, Charles and Bernard; and 6 sisters, Emily Mundt, Frances Whiteman, Louise Campbell, Alice, June and Vera Mundt. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday at Crestwood United Methodist Church (1220 Creston) with Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating. VISITATION will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Tuesday at The Sytsema Chapel 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210 along with one hour prior visitation at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Crestwood United Methodist Church or Harbor Hospice. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
