Mr. Howard M. Sieplinga's Obituary
Mr. Howard M. Sieplinga, age 91, entered his heavenly home Saturday afternoon, July 14, 2012. He was born in Muskegon on June 27, 1921, the youngest of the 3 children of Harry and Helen (Dobben) Sieplinga. He attended the Muskegon Public Schools, and graduated from the Muskegon Community College. His 3 years of service in the U.S. Army included 20 months in Europe from the Normandy invasion to the occupation of Germany. He married Leah Vredeveld in 1946 and together moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan. He was employed by the Steel Fabricating Co., and later was a consulting structural engineer for local architects, contractors, and industry. He served the City of Muskegon as a member of such boards as the Board of Review and the City Planning Commission. He was a life member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church where he served alternately on their board as a Deacon or Elder, and the Western Michigan Christian High School as a board member. He also served on the board of the Christian Manor. He is survived by his wife Leah, and their 4 children, Sheryl (Roger) Wiers of Chicago, Luanne (Donald) DeVries of Indianapolis, Harry (Connie) Sieplinga of Grand Rapids, Ann (Mark) Sneller of Zeeland; 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Dobben Sieplinga, and a sister, Jessie VanVoorthuysen. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, 1105 Terrace St. , Muskegon, with Pastor David Sieplinga officiating. VISITATION at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc.,The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442, (231) 726-5210, will be from 7-9 PM Tuesday, and 1 hour prior to the service at church. Burial will take place at Restlawn Cemetery. Mr. Sieplinga lived his life remembering who he was, and to whom he belonged.
