Howard Burnon Kemp's Obituary
Mr. Howard Burnon Kemp, age 83, passed away Sunday, February 15, 2004 in Grand Rapids, MI. He was born February 5, 1921 in Hickman, KY to Virgil and Ellis Mae (Williams) Kemp and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. Prior to retirement in 1979, he worked as a machine operator at Teledyne Continental Motors for 29 years. He married the former Julia W. Hanks on November 19, 1946 and she preceded him in death on March 9, 1987. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was a German P.O.W. Mr. Kemp was active with the Don Rea Post VFW #8846 in North Muskegon, and enjoyed watching sports on T.V., hunting, fishing and loved music and dancing. SURVIVORS include 5 children, Joseph (Vickie) Kemp of Muskegon, Gregory Kemp of Hesperia, Richard (Kimberly) Kemp of Muskegon, Carol (Julius) Weathers of Muskegon, John (Dawn) Kemp of Kalamazoo; 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Thomas (Josie) Kemp of Hickman, KY; 2 sisters, Mabel Sue Lattus of Birmingham, AL, Jeannette Byers of Union City, TN; and special friend and companion, Betty Ropp. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at the Sytsema Funeral Home,737 Apple Avenue,(231) 726-5210 with the Priest Mari Larson officiating. INTERMENT will take place at Restlawn Cemetery. VISITATION with Howard’s family will be 6-9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
