Mr. Hubert "Herb" W. Smith's Obituary
Mr. Hubert W. “Herb” Smith, age 67, passed away very suddenly Monday, February 18, 2013 at his home. He was born March 2, 1945 in Muskegon to Hubert F. and Ann M. (Vitek) Smith and was a life resident of the area. Herb was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as a butcher for the family business, The Hubert H. Smith Meat Packing Co. and retired in 2006. Herb had worked for a time as a forklift driver for TechMold. On October 28, 1983, he married the former Marilyn R. Sullivan in Muskegon. Herb was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion and sang with the Music Ministry. SURVIVORS include his wife, Marilyn Smith; 1 brother, Pat (Amy) Smith; 1 sister, Barbara Hegedus; nieces and nephews, Joel, Angela, Jordan, Andrea, Spencer, and Logan. He was preceded in death by his parents. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 2:00 PM Friday, February 22, 2013 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Ernest J. Bernott as celebrant. VISITATION will be held 1:30-2:00 PM Friday at the church. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS in lieu of flowers may be directed to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Restoration Fund.
