Ida L. McDougal's Obituary
Ida Lucille McDougal, age 94, passed away at her home in Ravenna, MI, on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. Ida was born in Casnovia, MI, on September 7, 1929, to Joseph and Althea (Roberts) Klein, and she lived her whole life in the area. She graduated from Kent City High School, then went on to receive her bachelor's degree from Central Michigan University, and some years later went on to receive her master’s degree from Western Michigan University. She worked as a teacher for over 30 years for Ravenna Public Schools before retiring in 1989. On December 16, 1950, she married Leonard “Bill” McDougal, and they spent many wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in 1991. Ida was a lifelong member at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, and she was very involved with her church family over the years. Ida enjoyed traveling with her friends and family, visiting much of the U.S. over the years and even some of Europe. She loved spending time with her family, reading, playing cards, and doing puzzles. She was an excellent baker, and her cinnamon rolls and pies will be especially missed. She was a wonderful person that was beloved by all, but very humble and the first to admit that she wasn’t perfect. She lived by her faith and by the teachings of Jesus and always put others before herself, and she often said that “you’re never fully dressed without a smile.”
Ida will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters: Karla Bundy and Amy (Greg) Iwaniw; two grandchildren: Scott (Kelee) Iwaniw and Anna (Nick Testy) Iwaniw; four great-grandchildren: Shea Iwaniw, Camden Iwaniw, Luca Iwaniw, and Aylin Bundy; sister in-law, Imogene Klein; many beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews; and many special friends. Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Althea Klein; husband, Leonard “Bill” McDougal; grandson, Taylor Bundy; and all four of her siblings: Kenneth Klein, Elizabeth Stinson, Royal Klein, and Maynard Klein.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be taking place for Ida at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, 4085 Lutheran Church Rd NW, Kent City, MI 49330. VISITATION will be taking place on Friday, November 3, 2023, from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at The Ravenna Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 3570 Thomas St, Ravenna, MI 49451, as well as an hour prior to the service at church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial contribution to Mamrelund Lutheran Church’s “Adopt a Family” Campaign or the Ravenna Community Educational Foundation (Ravenna PO Box 13).
