Ida Janice Smith's Obituary
Ida Janice (Dalrymple) Smith, 82, formerly of Muskegon, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2022. For the past two years, Ida has lived at Arcadia @ Limerick Pointe, a wonderful retirement community in Pennsylvania, near her daughter Debbie. Although she only lived at Arcadia a short time, she took pride in being a charter member and served as an ambassador to help others feel welcome. She made so many new friends, was actively involved in a variety of activities, and will be truly missed by friends and staff. Ida was born and raised in Muskegon, marrying Douglas Smith, and raising their family there. She worked as an accountant at Breneman-Hartshorn Co., Kaydon Corporation, and Payroll Resolutions over a long career. Ida was a career woman at a time when that was very uncommon, setting a positive example for her children and grandchildren. Ida and Doug were steadfast volunteers with the local UAW and the Democratic party. Ida is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, four sisters, brother, her loving husband of 56 years Douglas, and her beloved son David. She is survived by her daughter Debra (Brian) Rich, the lights of her life, her grandchildren Zachary and Alexandra Rich and Eva and Hayden Smith, daughter-in-law Grace Smith, sister Sally Fohlbrook, sister-in-law Carol (Joe) Millett, brother-in-law Mike Smith, and many special nieces and nephews. VISITATION for Ida will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. SERVICES will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at The Lee Chapel. Burial will take place in Rockford Cemetery. MEMORIALS in memory of Ida may be directed to Oasis Community of West Michigan, a non-profit organization helping adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live independent lives. https://www.oasiscommunity.info/ You may sign her online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com
