Ida Vanderlaan's Obituary
Mrs. Ida Vanderlaan, age 93, passed away Tuesday morning, April 5, 2005. She was born July 11, 1911 in Muskegon to Louis and Anna (Achterhoff) Doorn, and had been a life resident of the area. Mrs. Vanderlaan was a member of Unity Reformed Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Lois Circle and Cross Group, and belonged to Reformed Church Women’s Ministries. On November 7, 1935, she married William “Bill” Vanderlaan in Muskegon, and he preceded her in death on February 4, 1992. SURVIVORS include 2 children, Ken (Dawn) Vanderlaan of Norton Shores, Mary (Dave) Carpenter of Fruitport; 4 grandchildren, Todd (Ellen) Bastian of Hampton, VA, Jeff (Heather) Vanderlaan of Lansing, Jill (Scott) Vanderlaan of Roosevelt Park, Amy Bastian of Grand Rapids; 7 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary Doorn; and sister, Rena Staple. SERVICES will be 1:00 PM Friday at Unity Reformed Church with Rev. Ken Vanderlaan officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery. VISITATION will be from 5-8 PM Thursday at
