Irma Jean Thorsen's Obituary
Mrs. Irma Jean Thorsen, age 86, passed away Friday morning, June 12, 2015. She was born April 3, 1929 in Nashville, MI to Emett and Emma (Trask) Gibson. Jean worked for the State of Michigan for many years as a Regional Representative for Crippled Children before retiring. She was a member of Holton Lutheran Church. Jean enjoyed fishing, volunteered by delivering food for the Food Pantry, and writing poetry and books, one of which had been published. She was loved by many. SURVIVORS include 4 children: Dennis (Pat) Thompson, Lin (Greg) Olsen, Jane (Mike Polack) Wilson, Patti (Mike) Melvin; 10 grandchildren: Kelci and Ryan Thompson, Brandon (Amy) and Benjamin Olsen, Donna (Chad) Primmer, Stacey (Jeremy) Burghdoff, Peter (Amanda), Adam, Kylee Jean, and Dillon McCarthy and their father, Craig McCarthy; 9 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters: Aggie, MaryLou, Ann, Alcie, and Barb; many nieces, nephews, and special friends; and her beloved cat “Sunshine”. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Peter “Stubbie” Thorsen; daughter, Peggy Sue McCarthy; grandson, Brett Melvin; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters. A CELEBRATION of Jean’s life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 18, 2015 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100, with Heather Dean officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Holton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Harbor Hospice.
