Irving "Smitty" W. Smith's Obituary
Mr. Irving W. “Smitty” Smith, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 in Muskegon. He was born on June 22, 1920 in Muskegon to Ira and Petra (Dryer) Smith, and resided in the area all of his life. Smitty was a Veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served his country in W.W. II as a gunner on the B-29 Bomber. He worked for Pitney-Bowes for 25 years, before retiring in 1985. He was a member of Hope Reformed Church, and enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing, but most of all his grandchildren. On October 11, 1958 he married the former Doris Doctor, and she preceded him in death on July 15, 2008. SURVIVORS include 2 children, David (Julie) Smith and Lori Bailey; 5 grandchildren, Staci (Derek) Temple, Bill and Ashleigh Bailey, and Gillian and Olivia Smith; 2 great grandchildren, Elliette and Emry Temple; and several nieces and nephews. Smitty was also preceded in death by his brother, Leon Smith; and sister, Dorothy Hunter. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11 AM Friday at Hope Reformed Church (1878 Evanston Ave.) with Rev. Steven Hyma officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM. Burial will take place in Laketon Twp. Cemetery.
