Mr. Ivan Alvin Flaska's Obituary
Mr. Ivan A. Flaska, age 87, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at his home. Mr. Flaska was born August 23, 1927 to Ivan A. and Louise (Schaub) Flaska in Maple City, MI, and moved to Muskegon in 1929. He served his country in the US Army during WWII. On October 7, 1950 he married the former Elizabeth “Betty” McMachen at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Muskegon. Ivan was employed for 41 ½ years at Sealed Power Corp., retiring in 1986. He was a longtime devoted member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Ivan’s passion was being a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. Ivan enjoyed ice fishing, spending time outside in his yard, golfing with his wife, playing cribbage with anyone who dared!, dancing and listening to polka music. He was also a master craftsman for his family; building or fixing anything they needed. Ivan is survived by his beloved wife, Betty, of 64 ½ years; sons, Wayne Ivan Flaska and Gary Flaska of Roosevelt Park, Allan Flaska and Dale Flaska, both of Norton Shores; daughters, Jane Lenartowicz of Norton Shores, Karen (Mark) Varao of Norton Shores, Nancy Flaska of Fruitport, and Diane (Dave) Villalpando of Roosevelt Park; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Louie; oldest son, Glenn in July of 2009; and great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Hamm in June of 2009. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 12:10 PM Monday, June 1, 2015 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 239 W. Clay Ave., with Rev. Fr. Matthew J. Barnum and Rev. Fr. Julian Reginato presiding. VISITATION will be 5-8 PM Sunday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231 798-1100, with the Rosary being prayed at 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Mercy VNS Hospice or St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. We, the family, appreciate all the love and care received from Comfort Keepers and Mercy VNS Hospice. A special thanks to RN Dawn of Hospice, for her concern and care to Ivan and our family.
