Ivan C. Nordin Ph.D.'s Obituary
Ivan C. Nordin, Ph.D., age 85, of Holland, MI passed away on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at his home. He was born on May 25, 1932 to Clarence Conrad (Connie) and Beth (Peterson) Nordin in Lindsborg, Kansas. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He attended Bethany College in Lindsborg and obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Kansas in 1960. Dr. Nordin loved chemistry and worked for Parke-Davis/ Warner-Lambert as a Research Chemist in Ann Arbor and then in Holland, retiring in 1986 after 27 years with the company. He enjoyed gardening and his greenhouse, horticulture, woodworking, photography, reading and traveling. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven. On January 22, 1983, he married Joanne L. Kauffman Crispen and she preceded him in death in 2016. Surviving children include: Jane (Larry) Bednarz, Beth (Jeff) Riviere, Mark (Karen) Nordin, Constance (Joseph) Brogna, Cynthia (Joseph) Crispen Mangiardi, Mark (Maria) Crispen; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Dr. Nordin was also preceded in death by his son, Erik Daniel Nordin; sister, MaryAnn Burdick and former wife, Phyllis Jane (Anderson) Nordin. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven with Rev. Troy Hauser Brydon officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Lakeshore Cemetery.
