Jack J. Okkonen's Obituary
Mr. Jack J. Okkonen, age 94, of Grand Haven passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023. He was born December 8, 1928, in Muskegon to Jacob and Ida (Hellander) Okkonen, and Jack was a graduate of Muskegon High School.
Jack served his country as a sergeant in the US Air Force and retired from the US Postal Service. He was a member of the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28 and was a Civil War and American History enthusiast and enjoyed watching old western movies.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Westhoff; brother, Oliver Okkonen and many nieces and nephews: Gail, Jeffrey, Kathryn, Nancy, Laura, Diana, Dan, John, Joel. He is also survived by six stepchildren: Roxanne (Alex) Picard, Linda (Robert) Bowman, Kerry (Patty) Bathe, Barbara Lugten, Karla (Allan) Johnson, and Carolae (Walt) Rusin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice (Bathe) Okkonen; brother, Marcus Okkonen; nephew, Stephen Okkonen; sister-in-law, Monica Okkonen; brother-in-law, Richard Westhoff; and stepdaughter and her husband, Judy (Byrle) Tucker.
A visitation will be held 4-6 PM Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, 213 E. Savidge St. Spring Lake, MI 49456. Memorial contributions in memory of Jack may be given to the Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post 28. Interment with military rites will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
