Jack V. Ortquist's Obituary
Mr. Jack V. Ortquist, age 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 9, 2020. He was born on July 21, 1928 to Russell and Maybell (Vreisman) Ortquist in Muskegon. A lifelong resident of the area, Jack married the former Eva Christensen on August 21, 1950 and she preceded him in death on January 24, 2019. Jack served his country proudly during the Korean War while in the United States Army where he was selected to sing with the Wing Victory Chorus. Jack was a longtime member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church where he was an Elder, directed choir for 27 years, and taught Sunday School. He enjoyed traveling around the world with his wife and especially loved visiting the Greek Isles, Alaska, the Caribbean, Hawaii and the Panama Canal. He also liked spending his time singing and golfing. Jack will be remembered by his children, Joel (Monica) Ortquist and Lois (Dan) Luytjes; grandchildren, Holly Luytjes and Kaleb (Katrina) Evans; great-grandson, Charles Evans; siblings, Ronald (Janet) Ortquist and Lynn-Elle (Bryce) Colsman; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his wife of 68 years, Jack was also preceded in death by his parents, brother, Milton Ortquist; and half-sister, Henrietta Kersting. A Memorial Service will be held 11AM, Saturday, August 22, 2020 at Laketon Bethel Reformed Church (1568 W. Giles, 49445) with Dr. Sherwin Bransten officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service, from 10-11AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack’s name may be directed to Laketon Bethel Children’s Ministry.
