Mr. Jack L. Strait Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Jack L. Strait Sr., age 91, passed away Saturday morning, April 7, 2018, at his home. Jack was born March 28, 1927 in Muskegon to Joseph and Ruby (Lowe) Strait. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On November 12, 1955, he married the former Rose Ann Cassidy and she survives him. After the war, Jack worked at the Norge for 17 years, then Farr View and McDonald Dairies for 19 years, and then drove bus for the West Michigan Center for 5 years, prior to his retirement in 1989. He and Rose are longtime members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake. In his younger years, Jack raced hydroplanes, coached baseball and football; enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren. In addition to Rose, his wife of 62 years, Jack is survived by his sons, Terry (Laurie) Strait, Greg Strait, Jack Strait Jr. and Glenn (Connie) Strait; 10 Grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Vonia Rennels; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Tony Strait; his parents; brothers, Arlie and George Carrier, and Joseph Strait Jr.; and sisters, Irene Peterson and Dorthea Chaffee. A MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 406 E. Savidge St. in Spring Lake, with Rev. Fr. Dave Gross presiding. VISITATION will be Tuesday evening April 10, from 5-8 PM at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 with the Scripture Service at 5:00 PM. INTERMENT at Pine Hill Cemetery in Fruitport.
